Adult autism assessment

An adult autism assessment in line with NICE guidance, using the ADI-R and ADOS-2, the same standardised tools used in NHS autism services. We take particular care with masked and less typical presentations. Our CQC-registered clinical partner reviews your assessment, meets you and makes the formal diagnosis.

Adults (18+) only. We don't prescribe or manage medication.

Assessed by us, diagnosed by a registered partner

Your Lead Assessor carries out your screening, history and structured interviews, and writes a detailed readiness report. Your clinical partner is a CQC-registered consultant psychiatrist or clinic. They review your assessment, meet you for a diagnostic consultation and make the formal diagnostic decision.

Your partner clinician makes their own independent decision. That can include not giving a diagnosis, or recommending further assessment. How it works

Step by step

How it works

  1. 1

    Free initial call

    15 minutes · Free

A short phone, video or WhatsApp call to talk through what you're looking for, check the assessment is suitable and answer your questions. Nothing is booked or paid for until you decide to go ahead.

  2. 2

    Pre-assessment forms

    At your own pace

Secure online questionnaires covering your history and current experiences. Complete them at your own pace – there's no time limit.

  3. 3

    ADI-R interview

Approx. 2–3 hours · By video

A structured interview with a parent or someone who knew you well in early childhood, covering your development. This happens separately from your own sessions.

  4. 4

    ADOS-2 assessment

Approx. 1 hour · In person or online

A structured, interactive session with your assessor – in person where possible, or online. It's conversation and activities, not a test you can pass or fail.

  5. 5

    Partner review and diagnosis

    Included in the fee

Our CQC-registered clinical partner reviews your assessment, meets you for a diagnostic consultation and makes the formal diagnostic decision.

  6. 6

    Report & feedback

    Report + feedback session

You receive our assessment report, your partner's diagnostic report and a feedback session where everything is explained in plain language.

Before you book: the informant interview

The ADI-R needs an interview with someone who knew you well as a young child – usually a parent – lasting around 2–3 hours. If no informant is available, please mention this on your initial call. We can discuss whether an assessment is still possible and what it would involve.

Is it right for you?

Who this assessment is for

Designed for you if…

  • You're an adult (18+) who would like a formal autism assessment
  • You've been on an NHS waiting list, or want to avoid joining one
  • You have someone who can complete the informant interview
  • You want a report you can share with your GP, employer or university

It may not be the right fit if…

  • You're under 18 – we assess adults only for now (children's pathways are planned for 2027)
  • You're in crisis or need urgent mental health support
  • You're looking for ongoing therapy rather than assessment

Not sure? That's what the free initial call is for, and there's no obligation to continue afterwards.

An alternative to the NHS wait

In Kent and Medway, routine NHS Right to Choose autism assessments have been put on hold after the local budget ran out. They're not expected to restart before April 2027, and then there's a backlog. A self-funded assessment means you don't have to wait for NHS funding to restart. Read the full Right to Choose update
